SAB World of Beer is a fun-filled showcase of brewing. Visit us for a uniquely memorable experience of the magic of beer and brewing and two ice cold frosties afterwards. SAB multi-million rand investment in the area helped lay the foundations for what has become the Newtown Cultural Precinct. Since opening it doors almost ten years ago, the World of Beer has grown in stature and has become a popular attraction for tourists and South Africans alike. From ancient Mesopotamia, through Africa and Europe, the tour unveils beer heritage all the way to a honky-tonk pub of Johannesburg's mining camp days and a traditional Soweto shebeen. Our greenhouse nurtures beer's natural ingredients and a full-scale brewhouse reveals the intricacies of the brewing process. Making beer making friends goes hand inhand at The World of Beer and to end your visit, we invite you to relax in our Tap Room while you enjoy a glass or two of your favourite frostie. Delicious pub lunches are available in the Tap Room as you take in the panoramic view of the city.

Before you leave, choose a memento from our exciting range of branded merchandise, beer gear or sports accessories from our gift shop, Tankards and Togs. SAB World of Beer is open for tours Tuesday to Saturday from 10h00 to 18h00 for tours of the beer route. The World of Beer is also a unique venue for conferences or functions. SAB's World of Beer was opened by former President Nelson Mandela almost 10 years ago, on 15 May 1995 as we celebrated SAB's centenary year. The centre reveals, in an exciting and enjoyable way, the history of not only SAB, but of beer itself. In doing so, it unfolds the culture of beer and brewing since ancient times. The World of Beer is situated in the heart of the Johannesburg Newtown Cultural Precinct, and meets SAB's requirements of being easily accessible to all beer drinkers in Gauteng. It's within walking distance of three major railway stations: Westgate, Braamfontein and Park Station, and it is conveniently located on one of the city's main taxi routes.
